The patches can be saved in a single file. I'd like to mention a third option which is free and more versatile. For various tasks, several batch files could be set up, to reconfgure the patches between apps. Starting one or more Audio Repeaters using a batch file is possible - see. Alternatively In VAC, 'Audio Repeaters' can act as 'jumper leads', to connect sources to sinks. The 'patches' (links between apps etc) can be made by setting the source and destination in each app. This isn't free and I've found it very reliable - These two apps are very straightforward, but slightly awkward if reconfiguration is needed.

Virtual Audio Cable (VAC) - Provides as many cables as your computer can process. VB Audio Cable - 1 cable is free, 2 more cables are by donation - b. If you want to pipe audio from app to app or app to peripheral, then the windows operating system doesn't help you.
